I never thought it would be possible to get my kids to

try anything healthy and good for them but they agreed

to do it. Both of my sons love pasta on their plates so

they said if going healthier means they could eat more

of it they'd go all in. They did try it and they both

agreed that it is just like eating a regular plate of

pasta which they love. I guess they thought there would

be some underlying chemical taste to grab them in the

throat and that they would hate the taste. I'm glad to

see that wasn't the case at all and the kids are happily

eating their new whole grain pasta's without any regret.

It's strange how you can let your mind think something

that is good for you has to taste bad. I'm so glad they
have found out now that pasta from Barilla can be full

of flavorr while still being a helathier eating

alternative.

Tonight I fixed baked chicken parmesan with side dishes
of thin spaghetti noodles with parmesan cheese and

garlic roasted bread and it was a great wholesome meal

that we all liked. I had green beans with mine and they
added pasta sauce to their's so everyone was happy with

this new healthier version of their favorite food.
It was so much fun participating in this food challenge

and an unexpected turn out for me with my picky eaters

loving the new pasta.

When the spaghetti was finished boiling I drained it

right away to stop the cooking process and I added a

handful of parmesan cheese and a fresh clove of squuzed

roastic garlic and stirred everything up. I tell you,

that roasting the garlic made a huge difference in the

taste of this meal. I don't think everyone is going to

want it to be back on the menu calendar for next week.
Since Barilla also sent other goodies to try in this kit

I had so much fun trying some new things! I'd never had

sea salt with black olives so we used that last night on
grilled chicken and it was great.

I'd also never tried Pesto and I did try it thanks to

them and I really like the fresh flavor it brings to any

dish. I hadn't realized there would be such a

difference between the powdered spice basil I use and

the fresh basil used to make this wonderful Pesto. The

kids were too scared to try it they won't eat any kind

of green food no matter what it is-not even green

jell-o.
The kit also included Balsalmic Vinegar which was new to

me and totally awesome for an ingredient. I used it last

week to marinade some ribeye steaks in for a little bit

and it really brought out all of the flavors of the

meat. It was a great flavor explosion. If you are the

winner of one of these special Pasta dinner kits you are

going to love having all of these new gourmet

ingredients in your kitchen. They are easy to use items

and I really liked being able to have them on hand.
I also did use the extra virgin olive oil sent to flavor

the spaghetti water and to saute the chicken in. I

smashed some of the cherry tomatoes up and spread them

with the pesto onto the garlic bread. Talk about a wow!

meal it was really great to eat.

Now that I've gotten my picky eater's to eat this healthy whole grain pasta I'm going to fix dinner next week for my next door neighbor's. I don't think they've ever seen a whole grain anything at that house. It's time to bring them up to a good tasting meal for a change since they only eat fast food every day

Look at the contents of this kit:

boxes of Barilla Whole Grain pasta
Academia Barilla olive oil extra virgin
Balsamic vinegar
Pesto

sea salt with black olives

The apron is a nice cotton fabric in black so great for

  1. My favorite meal is a simple spaghetti made with whole grain pasta. Basically, I dress the spaghetti with tomatoes & garlic, both lightly cooked in a bit of olive oil. It's yummy! Thank you for this opportunity!

  26. Our favorite is whole grain linguine with olive oil, tons of veggies, onion, garlic, a dash of crushed red pepper and Parmesan. I also make my own bread with whole wheat and flax, sometimes rye, flours--I'd make a garlic toast with this recipe.

  44. We saute tons of veggies (red onion, red pepper, zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, and mushrooms) and add them to our favorite marinara sauce along with browned turkey sausage and serve over whole wheat pasta (spaghetti, rotini, penne - the possibilities are endless!). It's super-healthy and very tasty.
